Description

This is the World Premiere of Variations on a Theme by Stefan Wolpe for Solo Piano, written by Robert Gross. About the Artists: South Korean pianist Koeun Grace Lee presents Variations on a theme by Stefan Wolpe, a solo piano work by American composer Robert Gross. This concert is the World Premiere prior to an album production of the entire work. She holds a DMA in piano performance from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Robert Gross received his DMA in music composition at the University of Southern California where he also received a graduate certificate in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television. Publications include Perspectives of New Music. He is also a Board Certified Music Therapist, with an MA in Music Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. Program Information: Variations on a Theme by Stefan Wolpe is music composed to make essentially two points: first, that the demarcations between tonality and post-tonality are extremely fluid (and therefore they are not mutually exclusive and are indeed complementary and compatible in single-work coexistence); and second, post-tonal prolongation exists, because without it, post-tonal variation in theme-and-variations form would not be possible. Tickets: The concert will have a small ticketed in-person audience and will be live-streamed on youtube. Tickets are required for in-person attendance. Tickets are free, but $10 (or whatever you can best afford) contribution recommended to support recording and promotion cost of this repertoire. You can do so here. Parking Information: Parking is on the west side of the building and is on the back side of the church. The parking lot is adjacent to Brown Delaware St. and has 12th st. on the north and 13th st. on the south side. In-Person Audience Mask Policy *** Masks are required for all individuals regardless of vaccination status. *** A passionate performer of new music, Koeun Grace Lee enjoys learning and performing works of living composers. She continues to share the sophisticated quality and aesthetics of contemporary piano repertoire that emerged into her interpretation. Her particular interest is promoting piano repertoire that presents musical bilingualism of Korea and the West with her dual identity.
