A raucous and radical variety show in celebration of Purim. Wear a costume or a mask, and if you dare, sign up to perform! Purim is a holiday full of noise, celebration, masks, costumes, and usually drinking. To join in the fun, you're invited to wear a costume or a mask -- and those who are wild and brave can sign up for a spot in the raucous and radical variety show, highlighting DIY burlesque / comedy / circus / dance / music acts that fit within the theme of RESISTANCE. DEFIANCE, and CELEBRATING who we are. Doors at 4:30PM, show at 5PM TWO BANDS! - The Batteries and American Businessman San Juan Circus will perform! Radical raucous variety show: you could be one of our weird and wild performers!$5 in advance, $10 at the door. Consider buying a "chutzpah" ticket to support the costs of the event. While Purim commemorates the survival of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian empire after they were marked for death, this holiday isn't just for Jews! Purim is our queerest holiday. This party is about coming OUT (!!), being visibly Jewish or queer or punk or WHATEVER you are, even when faced with those who wish to judge us, or harm us, or scare us into being small. On Purim, we wear masks, and the rabbis say that you're supposed to get so drunk that you forget G-d's name. We're getting bacchanalian, not just for fun, but to remind ourselves that our social order... all those masks, labels, and hierarchies that we inherit and wear... they're made up! Which means we can stir the pot, we can smash those hierarchies, and we can change. Funds from this event will go to local organizations supporting queer and migrant youth.
