Jalyn Powell wants to hear from you! Here is an opportunity to meet the candidate through crafts and conversation! Friends of Jalyn Powell in collaboration with Cookies Paper Petals are hosting a community night over crafts to get to know the candidate and an opportunity for her to hear from you directly. Jalyn believes in the power of community and in order to serve your community, you must know your community! Remember, Together We can and We Will! We look forward to Crafts and Conversation with you! Jalyn Powell has exuded leadership qualities throughout her formative years. As an adolescent, she maintained academic honors that continued throughout high school. During her sophomore year, Milford Senior High School’s National Honor Society welcomed Jalyn as a member. Once she graduated in 2014, it was important for Jalyn to pursue higher education. She continued her volunteerism and was invited to join Delaware State University’s National Honor Society of Leadership in 2015. While there Jalyn persevered through the untimely death of her beloved twin brother in 2016. It is in his memory; Jalyn was determined to continue her education. She went on to receive the George Washington Leadership Award in 2017 for her community outreach contributions and stellar performance within the Political Science Department. In May 2018, she graduated from Delaware State University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. For the last two years, Jalyn has created an annual youth conference in memory of her brother. These conferences shed light on the effects of driving under the influence and educate youth to make healthy decisions. Jalyn’s passion for social justice and advocacy for the rights of all people has landed her internships for Congresswoman Lisa Blunt-Rochester and Senator Tom Carper. Jalyn was a captivating, powerful keynote speaker for Rehoboth’s March for Your Lives Movement from the stage she addressed residents, elected officials and the media. That event motivated her to start #OutLoud LLC, an empowerment services corporation. Jalyn has partnered with organizations such as Network Delaware, YWCA and ACLU’s #CampaignForSmartJustice to promote social justice, political participation, women empowerment and bringing awareness to the mass incarceration rates in Delaware. Presently, Jalyn is an Academic Mentor Program Coordinator for Mike’s T.E.A.M at the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware in Wilmington. Jalyn is currently a first-year master’s candidate at Regent University School of Law’s fast-track Human Rights and Rule of Law program. Jalyn is expected to receive her master’s degree in Law, May 2020.
