The Excellence tour will be a combination of a showcase and clinic where we will travel to showcase black and brown baton twirlers. This tour empowers performers in these communities to share their passions with others. Instructors: Olivia Lynch Olivia is Co-Founder and President of the Black Baton Twirlers Network. The Black Baton Twirlers Network’s purpose is to provide a space to promote a spirit of community, inclusion, and the celebration of black baton twirlers. ​ Olivia was a competitive baton twirler for 22 years. Olivia has won many NBTA and USTA state, regional and national titles. She was the first African American woman to win Congressional Cup and the Pre-teen Grand National Championships. Some of her performances and awards include Junior World Performing Arts Champion; Showtime At the Apollo, 2004 Pre-teen Grand National Champion; 2006, 2009, and 2012 NBTA World Baton Twirling Team Champion with the Wheaton Dance Twirl Team; 2010 USTA Northeast Regional Solo Champion; 2011 Congressional Cup Champion; and 2013 Disney Night of Stars Specialty Act Winner. Olivia also travels the country teaching at clinics and coaching individual students. John Mitchell John is a nationally accomplished twirler with World Open & Collegiate Championship titles and holds the prestige of being the first African American & male feature twirler for Pennsylvania State University’s Marching Blue Band. He also is the Vice President of the Black Baton Twirlers Network and founder of Twirling to Fight Cancer. He teaches and entertains millions with his energetic and athletic twirling style. Making appearances on America’s Got Talent, Soul Plane, I’ve Got A Secret, Dance 360, Showtime At The Apollo, and the Clipper and LA Lakers’ Halftimes, John is also an International NBTA Judge and Coach to nationally ranked twirling champions and Miss Majorette title winners. Kanisha Lites Kanisha is a proud 2007 alum and first African American feature baton twirler in the history of the Big Red Marching Machine (BRMM) at Illinois State University. She began twirling competitively at the age of 3 and twirled 1, 2, 3, and 4 batons at the advanced level. She has won numerous state, national, and international titles. Twirled at NBTA, USTA, AAU, TU, and WTA grew er talent and love of the sport especially in multiple batons. She is a former member of Sugar and Silver Baton Corp and Twirling Bears in the suburbs of Chicago being a part of the award- winning parade corps, teams, duets, and individual events. The co-founder and coach of S.T.A.T. Of Illinois in Chicago, she mentors students and young adults from various backgrounds. Many accomplished students in 1, 2, 3 batons, duets/trios, teams, parade corps, show twirl, color guard, and rifle winners. Showcase Our showcase will take place 12:30 pm - 1 pm . Please wear a mask and respect social distancing.
