Friends of Jane Austen and Smith Library are co-hosting Top Ten Take-Aways From Reading Pride and Prejudice, a lively panel discussion of lessons from Austen's beloved classic, still truthful and universal today. Take-aways include: You Can Learn A Lot From The Hero's JourneyTake A Closer Look At LydiaDon't Trust The MoviesBring your questions! Audience participation is highly encouraged. You do not have to have read the novel to enjoy the discussion. Sweets and tea will follow catered by The Festive Kitchen. Each attendee will receive a free book. Students are welcome! Meet The Panelists Joyce Kerr Tarpley Dr. Tarpley teaches at Dallas Community Colleges - Mountain View Campus, in Dallas, TX. Her publications on Jane Austen include a book on Mansfield Park (Constancy and the Ethics of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park, Catholic U. Press, 2010), essays on Sense and Sensibility in Persuasions: The Jane Austen Journal (2011) and Renascence. (Winter 2011) and an essay on Emma in Renascence (Winter 2018). She is one of the founding members of the Jane Austen Society North Texas Region andis President of the international Friends of Jane Austen society. Theresa Kenney Dr. Kenney is the author of The Christ Child in Medieval Culture (2012) as well as numerous articles for scholarly publications on Jane Austen, John Donne and Charles Dickens. She has presented at numerous conferences all over the world and speaks or writes seven languages. Her upcoming books include one on the endings in Jane Austen novels. Kathryn Davis Dr. Davis is the author of Liberty in Jane Austen's Persuasion and multiple articles and essays on Jane Austen’s works. She is a popular speaker at Jane Austen conferences and is on the Editorial Board of Persuasions, the journal of the Jane Austen Society of North America. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on Jane Austen’s works at the University of Dallas. Michael West Dr. West's research focuses on Renaissance literature, especially the theater of Shakespeare and his contemporaries. He's also an expert in Ancient Epics and Classical Education, which Austen's heroes would know all too well. He taught courses in literature, writing and Catholic studies at the University of Houston, Columbia University and Sacred Heart University before coming to the University of Dallas.
