Looking for companion dog

LookingFor a companion dog for my father who is 87. He has had an English springer spaniel all of his life and I think he would love to have one that is content to lay on the couch and watch TV with him all day so I’m not looking necessary for a puppy. Also may be interested in a cocker spaniel or if you have something similar that you think would make a nice companion dog.
