Join us for an afternoon of music, talks and community! Featuring the SAA Pianists, GSU Women's Studies and SCAD Women in Art. Come celebrate Women of the Arts! A collaboration of university and high school students wishing to spread awareness of women's contributions to art and support our local Safe Shelter Centre for Domestic Violence. Savannah Arts Academy pianists will perform works written by modern American Women composers. A talk by Georgia Southern University Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies students will detail the importance of preserving this art. SCAD students will discuss Women in Art. This event is given in support of Savannah's Safe Shelter Center for Domestic Violence. The mission of SAFE Shelter Center for Domestic Violence Services is to prevent domestic violence, protect victims and promote change in lives, families and our community. Since 1979, SAFE Shelter has been Savannah’s only shelter dedicated to victims of intimate partner violence and their underage children. Open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, the Shelter provides safe, confidential services to all victims of domestic violence. Reception to follow. In lieu of ticket prices, audience members are asked to bring 3 items from the list below for donation to the shelter. A list of goods needed are as follows: Cell phones (new or used) Trash bags Paper products Family size soap & body wash, shampoo & conditioner (new) Toothpaste & toothbrushes Feminine hygiene products Inflatable mattresses (all sizes) African-American hair care products Diapers (all sizes), wipes, etc. Laundry detergent, dryer sheets & bleach Towels & wash cloths (new & gently used) Sheets & pillowcases Bed pillows (new) Bus tickets/passes Gift cards for gas, supermarkets & department stores (i.e. Walmart, Kroger, Target) Cleaning supplies (i.e. 409, Clorox, mops, etc.) Children’s underwear & socks New ladies’ undergarments (all sizes) Furniture (i.e. beds, sofas, dinette sets) Kitchen utensils (i.e. can openers, spatulas, etc.) Snacks (i.e. chips, cakes, crackers, cookies) School Supplies Backpacks Ballpoint pens No. 2 pencils Colored pencils Pencil sharpener – the ones with a top for shavings can be a lot less messy Highlighters Large pink erasers Boxes of crayons Water-based markers Notebooks 3-ring binder School uniforms – Solid white, navy blue, red or dark green long and short sleeved collared shirts; black, khaki, or navy shorts or slacks.
