Does using the term rehoming make people feel better about abandonment

Just curious, I'm thinking about giving away a pet but I'm going to try to use the term rehoming because it's against policy to be a breeder or sell on Craigslist. So does the fact that I'm abandoning my pet and giving up on it, allow me to feel less guilty because I'm rehoming and using the term rehoming? I have a dog who has become attached to me and I thought it would be cool to own a dog but I realize now that I was an idiot and I can't even take care of a pet ant let alone a dog and now I just want to pass my responsibility on to somebody else Any inquiries?
