Press release from the City of Golden Valley: November 4, 2020 An early morning fire in Golden Valley Wednesday, Nov 4 resulted in significant damage to two apartment units. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation and has been released. The Golden Valley Fire Department (GVFD) was called to the 5600 block of Laurel Ave at 7:02 AM after reports of smoke on the third floor of an apartment building. Upon arrival, the GVFD discovered there was a working fire and upgraded the call to a first alarm apartment fire. Fire was found extending from the second floor to the third floor, and the incident was upgraded to a second alarm fire. No residents sustained injuries. The fire was believed to be caused by an electrical issue in the second floor apartment, which spread to the third floor through a vent chase. Seven other fire departments also responded to the two-alarm fire, including St Louis Park, West Metro Fire-Rescue District, Plymouth, Hopkins, Robbinsdale, Minnetonka, and Eden Prairie.
