MOUNT VERNON, VA — The deaths of a Fairfax County Police recruit and his wife are under investigation after police responded to their Mount Vernon home Saturday. Around 8:11 p.m. Saturday, police had been called to the Mount Vernon home Saturday night. A police recruit had found his wife with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital, where she died of her injuries, according to Fairfax County Police. Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, shortly after police left, the recruit called for police to return. Officers found the recruit with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was identified as Matthew Farberov, 28, a Fairfax County Police Department recruit. The wife's identity was not immediately released. The medical examiner will perform autopsies to confirm the manner and cause of death. The police department said in a statement it can provide resources to employees who need it. "To help maintain employee wellness, our department has numerous resources available to our officers, to include Incident Support Services, Peer Support, Peer Support Canine Program, chaplains, and clinicians," the police department stated.
