Historic Landmarks To Be Declared At Next Westfield Town Meeting

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield's Town Council will vote on a number of historic ordinances at its next meeting on Tuesday. The Council is welcoming residents back to in-person meetings starting Tuesday, after holding only virtual sessions the past few meetings. This week's conference meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Community Room in Town Hall, followed by the regular meeting in the Council Chambers at 8 p.m. As always, the meeting will also be live streamed on Facebook for those who cannot join in person. According to the agenda, Westfield will designate three historic landmarks at Tuesday's meeting. First, the Council will vote on an ordinance to designate Stoneleigh Park and 112 Ferris Place, also known as the Mills-Ferris Pearsall House, as historic landmarks in the town. The coffee kiosk located at the Westfield Train Station, which was originally known as the Union Company Newspaper stand, will also be voted on to become a historic landmark. This kiosk recently reopened in January after being closed since 2016 when Westfield legend Murray Perch closed Sunnyside News — a local newspaper stand. The Council will also vote on a resolution to replace old poles and wires in the town with small cell infrastructure, also known as "small wireless facilities" and 5G cell towers throughout the town.
