CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — All upcoming eviction hearings scheduled to be heard in Cleveland Heights Municipal Court will be given a three-week continuance, the city announced this week. Several other changes are being implemented to protect court workers, city hall staff and residents from the new coronavirus, COVID-19.
All eviction trials and status hearings scheduled for the weeks of March 16, March 23, March 30 and April 6 will be continued three weeks from their presently scheduled date. All hearings scheduled on or after April 13 will remain as currently scheduled, the Heights Municipal Court said.
Criminal and traffic arraignments scheduled for the weeks of March 16, March 23, March 30 and April 6 have also been continued three weeks from their currently scheduled date. All hearings scheduled for April 13 and after will remain as scheduled.
"All appearances and hearings are limited to attorneys, defendants, victims, and litigants in proceedings or anyone making payments to the court. Individuals who do not have business before the court will not be permitted in the courthouse," the Cleveland Heights Municipal Court said.
The court may implement additional safety protocols in the future.
Cleveland Heights City Hall is also closed to the public.Interior inspections of homes, by city personnel, are canceled, but exterior inspections will continue. Anyone who needs an inspection or building permit must schedule an appointment online. More information on that process can be found on the city's website.
