CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — A Heights High students tested positive for COVID-19 this week.
The student has not been in any school buildings or district facilities, Superintendent Elizabeth Kirby said. The student is at home with mild symptoms.
"We are working closely with the Cuyahoga County Health Department and anyone identified as a close contact will be notified by the health department as a part of COVID-19 investigation," Kirby said.
District officials urged anyone contacted by tracers to cooperate fully.
With COVID-19 spreading throughout Ohio at record rates, Kirby asked Cleveland Heights and University Heights community members to follow these health and safety tips:
Wearing a face maskSocial distancing of at least 6 feetFrequent hand washing with soap and waterHand sanitizing when soap and water are not availableStaying home when you do not feel wellDisinfecting high-touch surfaces regularlyNot sharing food, drinks, cups and utensilsAvoiding large gatherings of 10 or more peopleAfter considering an in-person return to classrooms, Kirby and district officials pivoted back to remote-only education until at least 2021. Cuyahoga County's COVID-19 threat was recently upgraded by the Ohio Department of Health. Statewide, COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are being confirmed at a record rate.
