Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento: A woman was found dead after a fire at a motel room in Sacramento on Monday, according to police. The Sacramento Fire Department had responded to reports of a fire at a Motel 6 on the 1400 block of 30th Street around 6 a.m. Witnesses at the motel described a man leaving the room and about 20 minutes later police received several calls about a man in the street swinging a sledgehammer at cars passing by. Preliminary information shows that the man is related to the motel room where the fire started, but the man's involvement is unclear. The circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation. (KCRA3) Elk Grove coffee shop, Savvy House Coffee Bar, located at 9630 Bruceville Rd., hosted a weekend long event celebrating Black History Month featuring local vendors and performers, including meet and greets with Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and candidate for Sacramento County District Attorney, Alana Mathews. "We are a majority minority city, and as soon as you walk in you feel welcomed and comfortable by all. Very representative of Elk Grove which starts in the grassroots effort." Singh-Allen said. Junior Theater Festival West chose Sacramento as home for their annual competition and youth from around the country converged on our favorite theater in the round. (ABC10)A shooting inside a Planet Fitness in Sacramento County on Sunday afternoon left one man injured, the sheriff's office said. The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. at a Planet Fitness on Watt Avenue in the Country Club Plaza. One victim was left with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said. The suspect has been arrested. (KCRA3)Citrus Heights Vice Mayor Tim Schaefer on Thursday provided residents at a neighborhood meeting with an update on the City Council and a look ahead at some positive changes on the horizon for the city. About a dozen residents attended the meeting of the Park Oaks Neighborhood Association, held in a room at Advent Lutheran Church. Schaefer spoke about his time on the council over the past year and fielded questions from residents, addressing topics including property taxes, drive-thru restaurants, council politics, and more.
