Press release from Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth: February 18, 2022 DURHAM -On the EDGE features drawings from 51 local artists who responded to the Museum of Art's open-call for submissions. The exhibition is currently on view through April 2, 2022, with a public reception to celebrate the closing of the exhibit on Thursday, March 31 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Artists from New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts submitted drawings created within the last two years that responded to the theme – "on the edge." On the Edge implies a balancing act, a change in direction. The edge can be structural as in the separation between spaces or things or perceived in human terms: those on the margins, the fringe, or outsiders vs. insiders. On the Edge could open a dialogue on mental states, societal tension, or moments of equilibrium. The Museum of Art received many entries and selected 62 works by 52 artists. The works simultaneously answer and question the theme and push boundaries of their own interpretation of "on the edge." Programs include three ArtBREAK artists talks featuring multiple artists from the exhibit. All talks occur on Zoom and require pre-registration. Wednesday March 2 12:10 p.m.-1 p.m. Featuring: Norajean Ferris, visual artist with work varying from bold realism to complex abstraction; New Hampshire printmaker Sally Dion; and former UNH Lecturer of Art and Art History Shiao-Ping Wang, whose work incorporates traditional and contemporary styles formed by intuition, memories, and experiences. Register here. Wednesday March 9 12:10 p.m.- 1 p.m. Featuring: painter, sculptor, and amateur ecologist, Ashley Williams, who explores the relationship between art and nature; Victoria Elbroch, who draws inspiration from trees and uses her art to address the current climate crisis; and Allison Belolan creator of mixed media and collage works which meditate on observations from the natural world. Register here. Wednesday March 30th 12:10pm- 1pm. Featuring: painter Tom Glover, UNH '84; Keene artist Craig Stockwell, whose works show the meeting of gesture and formalism; and Lisa Addison, UNH '99, with a portfolio ranging from painting, installation, and drawing.
