LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A local non-profit organization anchored in Laguna Beach was honored at the first year of the national Anthem Awards this month.
The MY HERO project — founded by Laguna Beach resident Jeanne Meyers more than 25 years ago — helps empower students by introducing them to positive role models through engagement with stories, artwork, audio and films.
"Our mission is to empower people of all ages to realize their own potential to create positive change in the world using media, art and technology to celebrate the best of humanity," Meyers said.
The online platform received a silver placement at the inaugural Anthem Awards on Feb. 15. The award initiative was launched by the Webby Awards to recognize social work that promotes diversity, humanitarian action, sustainability and art around the U.S.
Other awards went to WarnerMedia's Forces of Change, Disney's The Lion King Protect the Pride campaign and ViacomCBS' Mental Health Action Day.
"We are truly honored to be recognized as a winner in the category of education, art and culture," Meyers said.
Winners will be celebrated at a virtual Anthem Voices conference, followed by a show on Feb. 28. The virtual event will begin at 10 a.m. and go until 5 p.m. Registration can be found here.
"It is our distinct honor to recognize the work that brands, organizations and individuals are all making to create an impact in their community," said Jessica Lauretti, the managing director of the Anthem Awards. "We launched this platform to show the world that all corners of our culture, from sports and entertainment to business leaders and celebrities, are all standing up to say, it is time for systemic change and that social good is what we value as a society."
