CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — A 24-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting in Cleveland Heights on Sunday morning, police announced. The 24-year-old was riding in a car driving on South Taylor Road, near Euclid Heights Boulevard, when a red sedan sped past his vehicle. Shortly thereafter, gunfire erupted from a four-door, black sedan driving behind the 24-year-old. A bullet fired from the black car hit the 24-year-old in the upper back. Police and EMS arrived, gave the man first aid and then took him to a hospital, where he was later declared dead. "We are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspects who were shooting from a black 4-door sedan," police said in a statement. "We would also like to speak with the occupants of the red 4-door sedan that was traveling on South Taylor at the time of the shooting." Anyone with information about the shooting should contact Cleveland Heights police at 216-321-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 216-252-7463. Reward money is available for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect(s). Tipsters can remain anonymous. On Sept. 12, Malik Moore, 23, was killed while walking down Oakdale Road. He was shot multiple times, police said. Detectives are also investigating that shooting. Then, on Wednesday, a 26-year-old man was shot to death in an apartment complex on Noble Road. Detectives are still investigating Moore's death. Two people have been charged in the 26-year-old's killing, police said. As police battle the surge in violence, Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg told Patch she is stepping up visible police patrols in impacted parts of the city. "The Cleveland Heights police department continues to have a visible presence throughout the city. We are increasing our patrols in those areas where the recent shootings occurred and any locations we have seen an uptick in crime," she said in an emailed statement.
