DAVIS, CA — A machete-wielding man was still at large Monday in Davis, but police said in an update at 1:15 p.m. that the machete had been found; therefore, all lockdowns and shelter-in-place orders related to the search were lifted.
"Officers have searched the area and located the machete; the subject is still outstanding at this time," the Davis Police Department said.
Police first advised that a search was underway for a man reportedly armed with a machete at 11:22 a.m. Monday; at the time, the Davis Police Department said the suspect was seen in South Davis not far from an elementary school.
The man was riding a BMX bicycle and was carrying a machete, police said in their first alert. The man, said to be wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans, was seen on Halsey Circle, about a half-mile from Montgomery Elementary School, 1441 Danbury St.
"As a cautionary measure, Montgomery Elementary is sheltering in place," police said. "Officers are on-scene. Please avoid the area. Please call 911 if you see the subject."
Police sent another alert at 12:01 p.m. Monday, stating the man — further described as having shaved head and a mustache — was last seen in the area of UC Davis.
