Description

DAVIS, CA — Animal Control officers with the city of Davis spent the morning looking for a bear spotted early Wednesday but were not able to find it. The Davis Police Department received reports of a small brown bear last seen around 7 a.m., police said in a Nixle alert. The bear sighting was near the West Davis pond, which is west of state Route 113, near Arlington Boulevard and Shasta Drive. "If seen, please use caution, do not approach, and call 911 immediately," police said. "We spent the morning searching for the bear in the vicinity of the last known sighting," according to John McNerney, wildlife resource specialist for the city of Davis. "This included a thorough search of a nearby habitat/ stormwater basin," McNerney told Patch in an email Wednesday afternoon."We were not able to locate the bear." It's possible that the bear wandered back out of city limits, but could still be in the vicinity, he said. "We are monitoring the situation and asking the public to be ware of the recent bear activity and report any observations to the Davis Police Department."
