CLEVELAND – What the Cleveland Browns feared could be bad news has been confirmed after the team announced Monday that wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr., tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a come-from-behind victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Beckham will undergo surgery and will be placed on injury reserve, the team reported. ESPN had the news first. Beckham injured his knee on the Browns' second play from scrimmage while attempting to chase down a Bengals defender after a Baker Mayfield interception. This is the second injury Beckham has sustained since coming to Cleveland in a trade with the New York Giants. Last season, the star receiver dealt with hip and groin injuries throughout the year before undergoing surgery to correct the issue earlier this year. Beckham, who tallied 1,035 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 2019, had caught 23 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns before Sunday's season-ending injury. "Obviously, it's a big loss," Brown said Kevin Stefanski told reporters on Monday. "He's a huge part of what we do. So now, we have to huddle up and find some different ways and find some different people and put them in that role." He added: "You never replace a player of Odell's caliber with one player. It's going to take multiple guys." On the play in which Beckham was injured, he crashed into teammate Andy Janovich while attempting to chase down Bengals defensive back Darius Phillips. Mayfield, who completed a team record 21 straight passes and threw for five touchdowns – including the game-winner to Donovan Peoples-Jones with 15 seconds remaining – said he felt partially responsible for the injury which dampened a 37-34 victory that improved the Browns to 5-2 on the season. "I'm probably going to beat myself up about that one for a long time," Mayfield told reporters Sunday. "He's a guy who fights for this team, and in doing that, he got hurt. ... it sucks."
