CLEVELAND, OH — The Cleveland Indians baseball team could soon go by another name.
"For the past 105 years, the team was called the Indians. That will be no more as Cleveland has decided to change its name.," New York Times journalist Michael S. Schmidt wrote on Twitter Sunday night.
Schmidt said the team could make an official announcement sometime this week.
The reported name change comes amid a wider movement against keeping sports team nicknames affiliated with Native Americans. Earlier this year, the Washington Redskins in the National Football League dropped their nickname and are now called the Washington Football Team.
