DANVILLE, CA — Grace Leer again made the cut on "American Idol" after performing in her Tri-Valley backyard. Now she's hoping to make the Top 7.
Leer, who played soccer at the University of California, Berkeley and San Ramon Valley High School, is a country singer now living in Nashville, but she's quarantining back in the Tri-Valley. This week she was asked to pick a song that reminded her of home, she said.
Leer picked "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," which she said took her back to her childhood, dreaming of being a singer.
"Thank you for being so supportive throughout this journey and allowing me to be nothing but myself," she said on Instagram.

View this post on Instagram When asked what song reminds me of "home" it was an easy choice. I grew up in California, in a small town, with big dreams. I would sing this song over and over again and would draw pictures of me on stage with a microphone. During this shelter in place I am back in that small town living out my dream performing on @americanidol Life could not get any crazier. I made sure the arrangement was heavy steel guitar and I also took influences from the renditions of @martinamcbride and @leannrimes who have covered this song and I loved how powerful they made it. Every time I get to sing on Idol I want to bring you guys something different, thank you for being so supportive throughout this journey and allowing me to be nothing but myself. I promise to always be that for you guys Now let's keep this thing going to Top 7!! #americanidol #bigdreams #teamgrace #vote A post shared by Grace Leer (@graceleermusic) on May 3, 2020 at 7:28pm PDT
