Join us for a FREE watch party of the iconic Black History film Selma in Urbana, Ohio at the Gloria Theatre on February 28th at 7PM. We're hosting a watch party of the iconic Black History film Selma in Urbana, Ohio at the Gloria Theatre by GrandWorks on February 28th at 7PM sponsored by The River of Life Christian Center, a Gold Level sponsor of the Black Heritage Festival. Join us as we recount history and end Black History month in fellowship and memory of the civil rights movement. Free for the whole family! Although the Civil Rights Act of 1964 legally desegregated the South, discrimination was still rampant in certain areas, making it very difficult for Blacks to register to vote. In 1965, an Alabama city became the battleground in the fight for suffrage. Despite violent opposition, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his followers pressed forward on an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, and their efforts culminated with President Lyndon Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965 It's time to celebrate our history! The Urbana Black Heritage Festival is a way of remembering important people and local events in the history of the African diaspora.
