DANVILLE, CA — A car caravan protest took place Monday afternoon through the streets of Danville.
The demonstration came on the heels of a march in support of Black Lives Matter that drew hundreds Sunday, as ABC7 reported. Demonstrators took over the streets during the peaceful "Wake up Danville" protest.
On Monday, cars planned to wind through the streets from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. during the protest, police said.
The Danville Police Department said it had previously spoken with organizers and expected the demonstration to be a peaceful one. Extra staff were available as a precaution.
A June 7 protest in Danville following George Floyd's death drew thousands.
During the week prior, protesters gathered at San Ramon Valley Boulevard and Railroad Avenue to call for racial justice. Businesses were boarded up as a precaution, but no looting occurred.
