CLEVELAND — This fall, Ohio's "back to school" season is going to be unlike any other year, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In early July, Gov. Mike DeWine released Ohio's recommendations for school reopenings. Each recommendation could be molded to fit a particular school district. Among the mandates for schools: all students and staff must wear face masks, symptoms must be checked regularly, hand washing stations must be available throughout buildings, schools must be thoroughly cleaned and social distancing should be implemented where possible. The Cuyahoga County Board of Health recently recommended all school districts in the county begin the year with a remote-only education model. The county said its recommendation was based on the rate of COVID-19 spread locally.
