Was Jesus a pioneer of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion? Join us as we explore racial equity and reconciliation within church and faith. Join us as the Hopeful Honest Initiative on Race and Understanding presents its inaugural discussion on racial equity and reconciliation. Let’s get together, expand upon our relationships as we connect deeper, and learn more about supporting each other better. Our diverse and community-driven panel, made up of local church leaders and believers, will host an honest and hopeful conversation on the state of church and faith in the context of racial equity and reconciliation, including how we can lead by example within our communities. Questions will include: As believers and/or church-goers, are we called to work for racial equity and reconciliation? How do we learn from each other? How do we build relationships? How do we show that we care for our neighbors? If we are all created by God and in the image of God, why is our community still burdened by racism and all that it entails?Panelists: Rev. Derrick B. About the Hopeful Honest Initiative on Race and Understanding The Hopeful Honest Initiative on Race and Understanding began with two friends (Derrick Lockwood and Lee Burrows), a Black man and a White man, who were heartbroken after George Floyd’s murder and wanted to bring people together to have honest conversations about the pain and unrest of his death and similar events. Derrick and Lee then invited friends to a weekly call where discussions continued for more than a year, promoting deeper relationships, understanding and healing between those who joined. Our mission is to now strive for mutual understanding through hopeful, honest discussions and courageous relationships built upon trust, leading to meaningful action for racial reconciliation and equity. COVID-19 Protocols This event will adhere to all CDC guidelines. The Gathering Spot continues to take all precautions regarding cleaning protocols and safety measures at the venue. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 in our communities and proceed accordingly as we get closer to the event.
