Ohio Man Attacked 2 Cleveland Officers With Car: Police

CLEVELAND — A Parma man has been accused of attacking two Cleveland police officers with a car on Tuesday night. At 11:30 p.m., Cleveland police were sent to a home on Sprecher Avenue, on the city's west side. Officers were pursuing a man wanted on a warrant. The suspect was seen leaving a house and getting into a car. A woman was sitting in the passenger's seat of the vehicle, a police spokesperson said. Detectives put on their sirens and overhead lights and pulled the car over. When the suspect's car stopped, officers got out and approached the vehicle. The suspect then threw his car into reverse and accelerated toward the two detectives, a police spokesperson said. According to police, the suspect's car rammed the police cruiser, sending one detective to the ground and running over his foot. The police cruiser was pushed approximately 40 feet. After ramming the cruiser, the suspect's car broke down, police said. He was ordered out of the car and taken into custody, police said. Officers searched the suspect's car and found a gun and suspected methamphetamine, police said. The suspect, a 28-year-old man from Parma, was later booked at the Cuyahoga County Jail. The woman in the car was interviewed and then released. A Cleveland police spokesperson said both detectives were later taken to MetroHealth Medical Center by EMS. Their injuries were not life threatening, the spokesperson said.
