Curator of Collections Lisa Shockley highlights a prescription for “medicinal” alcohol written during Prohibition. This historical object is on display in Flourishing Populations and Industries: 1910s to 1940s (a gallery on second floor of Corinthian Hall). Written by Dr. Lon Tillman, a doctor at Wheatley-Provident Hospital, and filled at a drugstore on Independence Avenue, the prescription illustrates one of the legal ways in which people could get whisky and other spirits while the 19th Amendment was in effect.
Led by Curator of Collections Lisa Shockley, Curator Conversations is a series of programs that explores the objects currently on display and delves into themes, topics, and conservation practices. These programs are intended to enhance the museum visit.
