DANVILLE, CA — An Oakland man and former teacher at The Athenian School in Danville pleaded not guilty to two felony charges of sexually assaulting a minor.
The charges against Raymond E. Engeszer, 54, date back to 2013, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office said in a news release Monday. He was accused of sexual penetration by a foreign object of a person under 18 and oral copulation of a person under 18.
The charges were filed in July, court documents show. He appeared in court last Monday and has been released from custody after posting $150,000 bail, the DA's Office said.
Attempts to reach Engeszer were not successful.
In an email to The Athenian School community, Head of School Eric Niles said Engeszer did not work at the school in 2013, but worked as a science teacher and track coach there from 2009 to 2012.
Niles said the school has reached out to law enforcement for more information and plans to cooperate in the case. The Athenian School has child protection policies, procedures and trainings such as criminal background checks and ongoing training around boundaries, professional conduct, sexual harassment prevention and mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse, he said in the letter.
Engeszer also taught science at Convent & Stuart Hall in San Francisco, though his teaching crediential has been suspended by the state Commission on Credentialing Teaching.
The Danville Police Department continues to investigate the case and asks anyone with information to contact investigators at 925-314-3711.
