Rehoming Standard Poodle

Description
Remy is a purebred standard poodle who is looking for a new home. I adopted him 2 months ago from an owner who misportrayed his training and temperament which ultimately made him a poor fit for my home. To be clear, there are great things about Remy. I want him to go to a home that knows what to expect and will be a better fit. Age: Almost 2 years old Weight: 55 lb Neutered: Yes Vaccines: Up to date Previous training: One 6 week group class and daily training sessions with me Good with dogs: Yes he is good with dogs off leash but is overly excited on leash Good with cats: Unknown Good with kids: Unknown Exercise Needs: 45-60 mins (Vigorous exercise is best) Rehoming fee: Yes The good things: - Generally calm inside and sleeps through most of the day - Enjoys playing fetch and will bring the toy back. We are still working on “drop it” - Doesn’t chew on things in the house. Although, he does enjoy chewing on toys. - Rarely barks. He will usually let out a small bark if a dog outside barks but is not an incessant barker - In my home he will wait to go through doors like the front door or the bedroom door until you say okay. This prevents him from bolting and also means that he will politely wait outside a door - Allows you to bathe and groom him (I have bathed and shaved him myself) - Knows commands (sit-stay, lay down-stay, place, touch, here, go potty, etc.) - Food motivated (will happily work for treats and even his kibble inside). I usually roll up his meals in a towel so that he has to work for it - Clicker trained - Will not go on furniture unless you allow him. However, if you allow him to, he may get on when you leave the house. He does know the word down though and will get off when you ask - Loves pets and cuddles from his people - No separation anxiety issues - Fully potty trained - Trainable Where he needs work: - Remy gets overstimulated in new places and when he sees dogs. What this means is that he will pull and whine if he sees a dog on leash. If you plan on being able to take him with you wherever you go, you should plan on working with a trainer. - Sometimes gets excited by people when outside. If they try to pet him, he might jump. - He doesn’t have great leash skills. He has seen some improvement the past months, but he will need more training consistently to be able to walk nicely on leash - Not a fan of getting his nails cut (I usually take him to a groomer for this) He will come with all of his stuff: - Bed - Grooming supplies (Clippers, scissors, brush, etc.) - Leash - Food - SimpleHuman Food Container - Treats - Dog backpack - Toys - Flea and Tick medication Overall, Remy is very well-behaved at home, but struggles with overexcitement outside. As I mentioned above, if you are looking for a dog to take with you everywhere, he will require more training. If you are looking for a companion at home and have ample space for him to run, this may be less of an issue. I am in no rush to rehome him and want to ensure that the next home he goes to is a good fit. Given this, I will expect that you meet him at least once before taking him home so that you have time to make a decision. I would also like to do a home check (this can be virtual) and am happy to do a home introduction with him before you decide. If you have any questions or would like to set up a meet and greet, please email me.
