SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Amid a surge in coronavirus cases, three hospitals in Santa Clara County reached intensive care unit capacity, a spokesman from Santa Clara County told Patch. The county only had 31 ICU beds available as of Wednesday afternoon.
Regional Medical Center of San Jose was also full, but still accepting patients through its emergency room, NBC Bay Area reported.
Dr. Sara Cody and county health officials were expected to discuss the situation with the County of Santa Clara Health and Hospital Committee Wednesday with updates on COVID-19, the vaccination plan and hospital status.
The news comes after officials anticipated a spike in cases after Thanksgiving.
The county reported a total of 41,316 cases as Wednesday, with 403 hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The county reported that 90 patients were occupying ICU beds.
