Hello again, Grand Rapids! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Grand Rapids Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Here are the top three stories today in Grand Rapids: The Grand Rapids Public Library announces the beginning of its annual Dyer-Ives Poetry Competition. The competition began in 1968 in an effort to encourage writings of high quality within the community. The contest is open to ages five to adult with the winners being published in Voices, receiving a cash prize, and the opportunity to read their poetry to the community. (Press Release Desk)The Ottawa County Sherriff's Office responded to a crash that resulted in a 25-year-old Grand Rapids woman being hospitalized in critical condition. The accident occurred on Feb. 19 on Fillmore Street with a woman being pinned into her vehicle; firefighters removed the woman from her vehicle. The street was closed until the next day. (MLive.com)Grand Rapids' Briggs Park is getting upgraded with a hammock grove and a garden filled with native plants that support pollinators. Local artist Craig Rhyan has designed colorful wooden structures to support the hammocks with additional spots for caterpillars to build chrysalides. The upgrades are part of a $420,000 project and will be completed this summer.
