TPD Gives Update On Mall Shooting; Four Suffer Minor Injuries

TUSCALOOSA, AL — In an update following a shooting at University Mall in Tuscaloosa Saturday afternoon, Tuscaloosa Police now say four people received minor injuries after an individual fired shots in the food court area around 1:30 p.m. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts TPD said in its Saturday evening update that one woman was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center by private vehicle after being grazed by a bullet. Three other people were also injured, but did not require hospitalization. A short time later, Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit co-commander Captain Marty Sellers the woman was taken to DCH by bystanders after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head that was believed to be non-life threatening. "Two other women and a man were also hit with fragments of a projectile as a result of the shooting," Sellers said. " Sellers then said the victim who was grazed on the head was treated for her injuries and released, before going on to say the three others were treated at the scene by paramedics. There are no suspects in custody at this time. As Patch reported earlier Saturday afternoon, it was first believed that only one woman was injured, which was updated shortly thereafter once more details had been gathered by police. The multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation, but Tuscaloosa Police insist the department does not believe there to be any immediate danger for the community.
