SANTA CLARA COUNTY,CA — Voting results from Tuesday's election showed state Assemblyman Kansen Chu appears headed for a November runoff with former Sunnyvale Mayor Otto Lee for the Santa Clara Board of Supervisors' open District 3 seat, currently represented by Supervisor Dave Cortese. With all 114 of the county's vote centers reporting, Chu led the four-person field with 33.41 percent of the vote, followed by Lee with 27.95 percent. San Jose City Councilwoman and former Vice Mayor Magdalena Carrasco and former San Jose Planning Commissioner John Leyba sit third and fourth in the race with 24.59 percent and 14.05 percent, respectively. The quartet are seeking to succeed Cortese, who is stepping down to run for the state Senate. The district includes parts of east and north San Jose, the northern Sunnyvale, Milpitas and Alviso. County vote totals also showed incumbent Supervisors Cindy Chavez of District 2 and Joe Simitian of District 5 skating toward re-election. Chavez led with 63.65 percent of the vote in her district, more than 40 points ahead of her closest challenger, while Simitian is running unopposed for his seat.
