Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care                   Seeks Compassionate Student Volunteers (ATLANTA) – April is National Internship Awareness Month. That’s why Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care in Atlanta is encouraging high school and college students to start “building their future” by volunteering at Crossroads. While internships often get a bad reputation as unpaid busywork, they can be a great way for young people to get professional exposure through meaningful experiences. By providing comfort, companionship, and a helping hand to terminally-ill patients and their families, hospice volunteering gives career minded students valuable first-hand experience with patient care. In addition to assisting patients, student volunteers also provide support to the Crossroads administration team ranging from special events to community outreach. Crossroads volunteers play a vital role in caring for some of the 1.5 million American families with a loved one on hospice. By donating as little as 45 minutes per week, students can learn a lot about hospice and palliative care. High school students can help fulfill their community service requirements while refining their social skills, boosting self-confidence and developing new talents. “Volunteering at Crossroads is a great way for students to not just build their resume but their self-confidence” says Volunteer Manager Candyce Patterson. “High school and college students will gain insights into working in a hospice and palliative care organization that will improve their soft skills and possible future career within healthcare.” For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, contact Candyce Patterson at 770-270-9898 or [email protected] or Laura Haigler at 770-270-9898 or [email protected] or visit CrossroadsHospice.com/Volunteering. Before becoming a Crossroads Hospice volunteer participants must complete an application, drug test, TB skin test, and training session led by members of the Crossroads team. Potential volunteers must wait a minimum of one year after the death of an immediate family member or loved one before applying. Internship Awareness Month was founded by the Career Edge Organization in 2017. It celebrates the benefits of internships for both employers and students. According to Career Edge, internships offer a great way to teach and share information with individuals ready to start their careers. They provide employment training and experiential learning opportunities that often have the ability to enhance a person’s professional qualities like strengthen “soft skills” such as teamwork, communication, and problem solving. Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care is committed to being the forefront of the hospice care industry, to continually shape the way end-of-life care is viewed and administered. The mission of Crossroads is to provide highly unique, comprehensive, and compassionate hospice services to persons experiencing a life-limiting illness and to their caregivers.
