Description
Each Fall, Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care honors US Military Veterans and all they have contributed and sacrificed for our country. Vietnam War Army Veteran Bill Saling is the star guest at Crossroads’ Veterans Recognition Ceremony at Benton House of Woodstock this Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11th.
Mr. Saling will present, “The Meaning of Veterans Day” and lead the Soldiers Creed. Now retired, Saling has made it his life’s mission to connect with senior Veterans, helping them fondly remember their time in the service.
In his speech, Saling says,
Today, we are gathered together to acknowledge and thank our Veterans, past and present. Let me be clear, a Veteran is anyone who has served in the armed forces of the United States and received an honorable discharge for his or her service. Someone who served as a clerk during peacetime is just as much a Veteran as someone who served overseas in combat.
Back in 1965, Saling was commissioned in the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry. He served in Vietnam from August 1966 to July 1967 as a platoon leader and battalion adjutant. Now Saling works relentlessly to recognize and honor Veterans while enjoying retired life as a resident of Canton.
