Forge your own handmade blade during a two part workshop with hands on guidance and instruction from the experts! This course spans over 2, 4 hours sessions and each student leaves the workshop with their very own custom handmade blade! Students may bring their own designs to the class with them but are encouraged to keep their blade design under 10" total (blade + handle). Materials, both steel and wood for handles, will be provided. Please note: This is 2 part course that spans over 2, 4 hours sessions on back to back nightsPLEASE NOTE: class tickets are scheduled for March 5th and March 19th but these are arbitrary dates. When a ticket is purchased we will reach out to coordinate dates with you directly. This class is sold as one ticket but includes access for two. This class has a prerequisite course. If you are interested in joining this workshop but have not completed our intro to blacksmithing class, please sign up and complete that course before registering for bladesmithing. Location: MaketoryMandatory Safety Equipment: Safety Glasses (Maketory has pairs available at the facility if you do not own any). Closed-toed shoes, full length pants and short sleeves. This course also serves as a certification to run the machine independently at our facility as a member (valid for 60 days after class is taken). You can learn more about our membership options on our website or contact us directly at 858-252-1919 or [email protected] About the instructor: John Page Blacksmith/Bladesmith John has been a bladesmith for 10 years, practicing all across the US, beginning as a knife maker and swordsmith. Throughout his career he also explored traditional steel making and a wide variety of pattern welding. Since moving to California in 2016 he has worked as a public educator, demonstrator, and reproduction blacksmith for Old Town State Park. For the last several years John has explored and developed traditional ironwork and tool making. In February/March of 2020 he traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina to teach hammer making and the corresponding tooling to local artisans. In addition to ironwork, John is a luthier and fine woodworker, and currently a Sawyer for Lumbercycle, a non profit sawmill operating across the Southern California region.
