Description

GREENFIELD, WI — Work on the first phase of the paved Powerline Trail, which spans from near Kulwicki Park in the west to Armour Park in the east, is expected to begin this spring. The first phase of the project will connect to parts of a wider trail system in Milwaukee County. Phase one will connect to the existing Oak Leaf Trail at 105th Street and Cold Spring Road and run east until 60th Street, according to the project's website, powerlinetrail.org. Phase two would bring the trail even further east. It would be a shared-use path, with much of it running under We Energies powerlines. The project's website points out that the first leg of the trail, to be completed with phase one, will be within ¼ mile of numerous civic and business assets, while also connecting bus stop hubs. Greenfield City Hall, restaurants, grocery, retail and schools would all be within that ¼ mile distance, according to the project website. The project will largely be funded by a federal grant, according to a report by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
