PLAINFIELD, NJ — A young man from Piscataway was charged with attempted murder this week after police say he and two others fired 35 times in a drive-by shooting in Plainfield last April. Demetrius Stephens, 19, of Piscataway, Raheim Morgan, 19, of Dunellen and Ja'Son Spann, 19, of Plainfield were all charged with first-degree attempted murder, weapons charges and third-degree receiving stolen property, a stolen car police say they were firing from. The shooting happened at 1:30 p.m. April 26, in the area of Liberty and West 4th streets, where multiple shots were fired. Officers discovered several homes and cars had been struck by the stray bullets. Police say the three young men, driving in a stolen car, fired a total of 35 rounds at their intended victim, a Plainfield man. That man was able to take cover during the attack and was unharmed. Morgan, Spann and Stevens were taken into police custody this week and remain in the Essex County Jail. Anyone with information about this matter or these suspects is urged to contact Plainfield Police Detective Ilyas Muhammad at (908) 753 -3531. Get great local news.
