Description

What do you remember about the year 2000?America was finally exhaling after its collective panic over Y2K. Justin Timberlake was still in NSYNC; BeyoncĂ© was still in Destiny's Child. The New York Yankees beat the New York Mets in the World Series. A 15-year-old named Michael Phelps competed in his first Olympics, finishing fifth in the 200m butterfly. The XCel Energy Center was built in St. Paul. And Meg Tilley was elected to her first term on the Eagan City Council.Meg had previously served on the Parks Commission, Economic Development Commission, and Planning Commission, and had been president of the Eagan Foundation. Her career included experience as an educator in ISD 196 and 26 years with MNDOT. And, beginning in January 2001, Meg served the people of Eagan as a councilmember for five terms until she announced her retirement this past July.Over those 20 years, Meg Tilley was present for enormous changes in Eagan. New development included the Viking Lakes complex, Premium Outlets, and Central Park Commons. Improvement of City facilities included the City Hall/Police Department expansion, two new fire stations, and the partnership to preserve Caponi Art Park. City policy was moved forward with the formation of the Energy & Environment Advisory Commission and the establishment of a domestic partnership registry.Throughout those many years of service Meg Tilley has delivered one consistent message - that she loves Eagan. And after seeing how much of her life she has dedicated to this community, Eagan clearly loves her back. Although Meg's name still appears on the ballot, someone new will be filling her shoes starting in January. Thank you for your service, Meg, and enjoy your well-deserved retirement! For this and other blog posts visit my website, or feel free to contact me by phone at 651-706-0061 or email me at [email protected].
