As we all complete our absentee ballots or prepare to vote on Election Day, it's important that we educate ourselves about the candidates from whom we must choose.For some contests, it is impossible not to - the airwaves are saturated with news stories and ads for presidential and congressional candidates. But lower down the ballot, the names become less familiar; that's where endorsements from people that we know and trust can help us make a choice. When I began designing my campaign website last spring, the first page I tackled was the Endorsements page because I wanted Eagan voters to know that many of the leaders they have trusted in past elections now trust me to continue their work. Here are a few of their comments with regard to my City Council campaign: "I've appreciated Mike's advocacy for open space, his participation in the Eagan Police Department's Citizen Academy, and his insights on the Advisory Planning Commission. But for voters who don't have the time or inclination to call or email, endorsements are a valuable tool toward understanding a candidate.
