Gresham Skier Olympian Luke Winters Didn't Medal But Represented

GRESHAM, OR —As the Winter Olympics come to an end, the memories will live with Luke Winters for a long time. Many in Gresham will hold them as well. Winters, an Alpine Skier, competed for the United States Olympics Team in Beijing. It was his first Olympics. He was one of two Oregon Alpine skiers who competed a the Olympics this year. The other, Asa Miller, is from Portland but skied for the Philippines. He finished 25th in the Slalom and 42nd in the Giant Slalom. Winters grew up in Gresham where he and his twin brother, Cody, would head to Mt. Hood to ski. Winters later attended Mt. Hood Academy and then Sugar Bowl Academy. All the skiing paid off. He's a three-time national champion, winning in 2019 and 2020 Slalom and the 2021 Alpine combined. He's also been the leading USA men's slalom skier the past two years, finishing in the top-30 six times. While the Olympics may be over, his skiing is far from. He's off to Germany for back to back World Cup circuit races to end the World Cup season. Meanwhile, back in Gresham, Winters' family and others are still rooting. "We're just super proud of him and thank everybody for supporting him," Winters's mother, Marcie,told KGW News. "You know a whole lot of people were rooting for him."
