Description
"a masterful guitarist -- really, a total whiz of a rare order." --Hudson Valley Almanac Weekly "a force to be reckoned with... sophisticated chord voicings, complex fingerpicking patterns, and a flurry of blues, jazz, and folk-inflected riffs performed with a ringing acoustic tone and an undeniable rhythmic drive." --Wired.com "an appealing blend of Americana, folk, and blues, with a hint of jazz and an undercurrent of melancholy, just how we like it." --American Songwriter ---- Hey Everyone, I'm an accomplished improvising guitarist and composer/songwriter who moved to Los Angeles during lockdown. Haven’t done much playing out here yet thanks to COVID but now that things are opening up I’d love to start getting out there and finding some like-minded players. To tell you a bit about myself, I'm 42, I've been playing for over 25 years, went to jazz school, have an MFA in composition, and worked as a full time touring sideman/session guitarist in all kinds of different situations for most of my life until recently. Influences include guitarists like Wayne Krantz, Bill Frisell, Blake Mills, and Ariel Posen, songwriters like Anais Mitchell and Madison Cunningham, and bands like Wilco, Hiss Golden Messenger, and Snarky Puppy, to name but a few. I’ve transitioned to a new career out here in LA, so at this point, I'm just looking to find some local folks to play with in a low-pressure situation that will hopefully lead to some gigs at places like ETA in Highland Park and 1642 in Echo Park (where I live). Maybe some regional touring if things really work out. Ideally, I’d hook up with a bassist and drummer and get a trio going, but I'm open to other options, too (an organ trio is also high on my list if you're out there!). Musically, I cover a lot of ground, so here are some links to different kinds of stuff: Americana/Rock/Jazz Trio: https://scottbarkan.bandcamp.com/track/good-at-goodbye Folky, songwriter stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfJmYrlQyEU Mathy, avant noise/rock: https://scottbarkan.bandcamp.com/track/hurt-locker Groove based improv jazz/rock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53V7k75TxAo Kind of a mix of everything: https://soundcloud.com/scottbarkan/do-you-know-me That's probably enough to get a sense of where my interests lie. I've got tons of music ready to go, so if any of this sounds cool to you drop me a line and let's get the ball rolling! Best, Scott
