Plant Merchandiser

Jobs

Milwaukee WI

Description

Note: This is a seasonal position, which does not begin until early March. All merchandisers will be laid off the week before Christmas. New merchandisers start at $13.50 and returning merchandisers get bumped up to $14.50. We have full-time and part-time availability and our hours are super flexible. Please let us know your availability and how many hours you're looking for and we'll try to accommodate you! The Cottage Gardens, Inc. supplies shrubs and trees to all the Home Depots in the Milwaukee area. Essentially, our job is to show up to stores and merchandise the various shipments of plants that our company sends throughout the year. When we're not putting shrubs on tables or organizing them on pallets-- our job shifts to more pruning, watering and keeping the area around our plants neat and tidy. Some days, you will work on your own, other days, you'll work as part of a team-- all of this will be communicated to you via your supervisor. You must have a car and valid driver's license and be willing to drive yourself to a couple stores each day. We don't reimburse for gas, unfortunately, but you are encouraged to stay punched in when traveling between stores. Most stores are only about 20 minutes away from each other. The stores we cover are: West Bend, Menomonee Falls, Wauwatosa, West Allis, Waukesha, Franklin, Racine, Holt Ave., North Shore and Grafton-- ten stores in all. Most days, you'll only have to drive to a couple stores, and a lot of days, we'll just meet at one store and then carpool around as a team in my company provided truck. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors in the heat and cold. It is definitely a physical job, one that requires a lot of walking and lifting, but it gets easier as the year goes on. The year will consist of the following four phases: 1. Spring (Early March-end of May): This is our busiest season. Our main focus at this time of year is keeping up with deliveries. This will be the most physically challenging part of the year, but it goes by quick. 2. Summer (June-August): Things will start to slow down during summer as we start to get fewer and fewer deliveries. At this point, our focus shifts to keeping the plants alive in the summer heat. Expect a lot of watering. 3. Pumpkin Season (September-October): There will be a lot less plants to worry about at this time of year, but we are responsible for merchandising pumpkins. The good thing about pumpkins is you don't have to water them! 4. Christmas Tree Season (November-December): At this point, all the plants will be gone and our focus will shift to merchandising Christmas trees. It'll be a physically challenging couple of weeks getting the trees unwrapped and into the corrals, but once that's over, the year winds down nice and easy from there! This job has a lot of ebbs and flows, and no two days are the same. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in-- please let me know your availability! My plan is to conduct phone interviews and get people hired between now and the beginning of March. ------ The Cottage Gardens, Inc. is a wholesale grower of shrubs, trees, and roses serving the Midwest.
