CULVER CITY, CA — Culver City police arrested a parolee riding a bicycle, who was armed with a replica firearm that resembled a 9mm Beretta, police said Sunday. The arrest was triggered when officers spotted a man at approximately 12:30 p.m. riding a bicycle without a light in the area of Washington Place and Bentley Avenue, the Culver City Police Department reported. As officers drove closer to the man, they saw the butt of the replica handgun protruding from his waistband and he was detained without incident. The suspect initially gave officers a fake name, authorities said. "After determining the subject's true identity, it was revealed that he was on active parole for assault with a deadly weapon and was wanted by the California Department of Corrections for violating the terms of his parole," police said in a statement. - City News Service and Patch Editor Nicole Charky contributed to this report.
