Beachwood Launching Free Delivery Service For Local Restaurants

UPDATE: Beachwood Delivers will launch this week, but is not yet live. BEACHWOOD, OH — To help local restaurants, Beachwood will soon offer a new, no-fee delivery program for restaurants and residents. The program — called Beachwood Delivers — will allow restaurants to avoid using delivery-service apps, which sometimes gobble as much as 30 percent of the ticket price. To qualify for Beachwood Delivers, orders must be at least $25. Once the order is placed, the restaurant calls for a delivery driver from the city. The program will open from 4 - 8 p.m. daily. Beachwood Delivers will serve nine of the city's 16 locally-owned restaurants. The job has been posted on the city's website and applications are now being accepted. This is a first-of-its-kind program and should launch in days, Beachwood officials said. The program will remain in place for at least a month. "Rather than relying on legislation to cap delivery fees, our City has removed the middleman by becoming the middleman," said Mayor Martin Horwitz. "It's another example of how our outstanding City services have elevated Beachwood to one of the premier suburbs in Ohio, while protecting a vital segment of our small-business community." The program will be funded entirely by the city. Beachwood Delivers is the brainchild of Community Services Director Karen Carmen. "Whether you order something extravagant or inexpensive, you can feel good knowing that yourorder is truly supporting a local business without robbing them of their razor-thin profit margin," Carmen said An Ohio Restaurant Association representative said they would love to see similar programs developed in other municipalities in Ohio and around the nation.
