BURNSVILLE, MN — Marion W. Savage and Sioux Trail elementary schools, as well as Metcalf Middle School, will close next year as part of Burnsville-Eagan-Savage District 191's work to adjust for declining enrollment. The Board of Education approved the closures at the Dec. 12 district meeting. Here are five things to know about the closures: The closures are expected to save $2 million in costs annuallyOfficials believe the move will allow for more consistent class sizes at the district's elementary schoolsStudents in the area will now attend the district's eight other elementary schools and the two other middle schoolsA design team, made up of district employees and community member, are working to create new attendance boundaries that define which students attend each schoolOfficials hope to adopt the new boundaries in FebruaryDistrict 191 has not changed its attendance boundaries since Harriet Bishop Elementary School and Eagle Ridge Middle School opened back in 1996"I know these changes are about more than bricks and mortar. They are about history, memories, emotion & relationships, too," Superintendent Theresa Battle said in a news release. "I also believe that we will come out of this stronger and in a better position to serve our students, and that gives me hope and excitement about the future of One91."
