Burnsville, Eagan Could Combine Fire And Emergency Services

BURNSVILLE, MN — Fire departments across the state will improve their services using grants from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety State Fire Marshal Division. Eagan and Burnsville fire departments received a total of $36,232 from the state. State officials say the funds will be used to continue implementing suggestions outlined in a study funded by a previous Service Planning Grant. Burnsville and Eagan are aiming to combine services. "The ultimate goal is consolidation into one fire and emergency medical services district," the department of safety said of the two cities. The SFMD received six grant applications requesting a total of approximately $264,000. The Service Planning Grant — formerly known as the Shared Services Grant — was first awarded in 2010, then in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2018. "These grants are an invaluable resource for the Minnesota fire service," said SFMD Fire Service Specialist Tate Mills in a statement. "Now these projects can go from the planning to the implementation phase — and that is a critical step."
