As an agri-business company engaged in agriculture, Hartung Brothers currently has the following employment opportunity available at our Kekaha, HI location (Kauai): Position Title: Integrated Pest Management “IPM” Technician (Entry Level / Full-Time Non-Exempt) Position Summary: Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities include the following but are not limited to the job specifications contained herein. Under the direct supervision of the IPM Lead the IPM Technician will provide spray application support to team members including but not limited to the following: • WPS sign management (opening and closing signs before sprays go down and closing after REI has expired). • Installation of posts and signs at the beginning of planting. • Transportation of equipment/supplies to sprayer operators. • Conduct Pesticide Applications via backpack sprayer or ATV. • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Practices o Conduct field scouting as needed throughout the growing season. o Acknowledge pest specific thresholds and learn to use the tools we have available (biological, cultural, chemical, etc.). • Record Keeping and Data Governance o Adhere to all Pesticide State and Federal laws. o Work with State and Federal officers during routine and unannounced inspections, complaints, or investigations. o Understand all aspects of pesticide management (interactions, tolerances, classifications, etc.). • Machine Maintenance and Operation o Operate all models of self-propelled and tractor mounted ag-chemical sprayers. o Read and understand all Owners Manuals for equipment used within the program. Understand and implement the manufacturers recommendations regarding services, regular maintenance, and repairs. o Understand calibration needs when it comes with pesticide equipment and develop schedules to ensure proper usage. o Capable of doing repairs and maintenance of each ag-chemical sprayer o Maintain the Accessory Building where equipment is stored and staged. Essential Functions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Field work physical demands: Able to wear PPE; bending and stooping; frequent sitting, standing, and walking over rough surfaces; reaching above shoulder level for extended periods. Ability to work in humid, hot, and dusty conditions for extended periods. Work Environment Work is regularly performed in a combination of field, office, and shop environments. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position; standard workdays are Monday through Friday. Maybe required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. • Flexible work hours especially during peak workload across the site. Able to work long hours or off schedule including evening and early mornings to ensure targets are met. Required Experience: • Must have valid driver’s license • Ability to perform general math and basic computer skills • Ability to obtain a Private Pesticide Applicators License • Must be self-motivated and detail oriented Preferred Experience: • 1+ years of agricultural experience • Experience operating farm machinery • Maintenance and welding • Knowledge of chemicals and their handling or application requirements The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
