Description
FREE Networking for all sectors of the community to learn about Mental Health! (80 capacity // Masks required) March 2022 Focus: "Kankakee Forgives" Kankakee Forgives is a movement to encourage forgiveness in the city of Kankakee to bring healing. The goal is to reduce violence among youth by helping them understand forgiveness and inviting them to forgive. Sounds too simple? Come hear real life stories of how it’s already changing lives! While serving a group of teens, a team of youth workers recognized that many of them just needed to learn how to forgive. Further, if these teens could understand the educational, emotional, financial, and physiological effect of unforgiveness, they would absolutely want to forgive! That turned out to be profoundly true. Teens willing to forgive fielded dramatic life changes for many of them. It also impacted their parents to the extent that parents have gotten involved. Seeing the impact of this movement has gained the support of the City of Kankakee, the Youth Empowerment Program, Kankakee School District 111, the STOP Team of Kankakee County, the Kankakee Police Dept., churches and organizations throughout the city. During this presentation, you'll hear: How forgiveness dramatically improves your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health.Real-life stories of the power of forgiveness in response to violence and injustice. How you can get involved in "Kankakee Forgives!"Our Presenter: Aaron Clark // Youth for Christ site Director / Kankakee School Dist. 111 / S.T.O.P. the Violence // Aaron Clark is a native of Kankakee. After leaving the area for 16 years he returned with his wife, Pamela, and 5 of their 7 children. Upon his return he got involved with the Youth For Christ City Life Center where he is now Site Director. He is also the Training Coordinator for the STOP Grant in Kankakee County where he has coordinated mental health and safety training for upwards of 300 professionals in the county during the COVID crisis. As an employee of Kankakee School District 111, he provides leadership training for youth, work opportunities for the troubled teens, and directs SEL programs to provide a stable environment for youth to learn how to thrive. Aaron is especially passionate about people healing, building bridges and reconciliation. That passion has led him to direct Police Stops, an initiative to bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement. He also helped found “We Made It Thru!”, a marriage building ministry and Kankakee Forgives, a city-wide campaign to bring healing and wholeness through forgiveness. Aaron gives most of time and talent to helping individuals, families and communities discover that the solution to their problems will likely come from the people who suffer from them. The first step is wholeness one person at a time. He puts this in practice with Pam, wife of 30 years in the community that they live in. //// In addition to learning about mental health, MHN's monthly RoundTable is a great place to make new connections in the community.
